Rev. Kojitsu Kobori is Chief Priest of Sanzen-in Temple, a Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan, established more than 1,200 years ago. After graduating from the Faculty of Buddhist Studies at Taisho University, he was ordained a priest in 1963, later going on to become Chief Priest of Jakko-in Temple in Otsu. Rev. Kobori has served as Director of the Hieizan Enryakuji Temple Cemetery, Executive Vice-President of Hieizan Enryakuji Temple, and Director of the Tendai Buddhist Denomination. He was appointed President of Hieizan Enryakuji Temple in 2014 and served in that role through 2020.
Located in the local community of Ohara in north Kyoto, Sanzen-in Temple seeks to interact with local residents and contribute to community life. As part of this effort, Rev. Kobori pays visits to Kyoto Ohara Gakuin, a local integrated elementary and junior high school, to build relationships with the students and create opportunities for the monks and students to interact.
