Dr. Salamah is the executive director of the Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) and the head of its Urdu Unit (since 2015). Now serving as an associate professor at the Department of Urdu Language and Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, she obtained her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Urdu Language and Literature. Working for the Al-Azhar Centre for Translation (ACT), she has contributed to ACT translation, editing, and authoring efforts of several books and many articles from Urdu to Arabic.
Dr. Salamah is a member of The Egyptian Family House and has participated in various conferences and workshops on preventing violent extremism (PVE) at the regional and international levels. She has represented Al-Azhar at the United Nations, the European Union, OSCE (Vienna), UNDP, and Egyptian presidential delegations to China and India; she also had the honor of partaking in the Peace Convoys to Pakistan in 2015. Dr. Salamah has an excellent command of Arabic, Urdu, and English. She is also the contact person for Arigatou International in Cairo and serves as an “Ambassador of Peace” for “Religions for Peace.” She has been a board member of the Royal Institute of Interfaith Studies in Jordan (RIIFS) since October 2023.
In 2024, on Egyptian Women’s Day, Dr. Salamah received the presidential award for distinguished performance as a researcher, faculty member, and advocate of peace and tolerance.
