Dr. M’jid is the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children and previously served as the UN Special Rapporteur on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution, and Child Pornography.
Dr. M’jid is a pediatrician, a former member of the Moroccan National Council on Human Rights, and the founder of the non-governmental organization Bayti, the first program addressing the situation of children living and working in the streets of Morocco. She has vast experience in developing national policies on child protection and has spent the last three decades promoting children’s rights. As a high-level global independent advocate, Najat Maalla M’jid promotes the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against children in all settings, including online and offline, in the home, in schools, on the streets, in humanitarian settings, in institutional care, in detention centers, in the workplace, and in the community. She strongly advocates prioritizing investment in child protection and well-being and involving children as part of the solution.
