Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is the spiritual leader of 300 million Orthodox Christians worldwide, having ascended the Ecumenical Throne on November 2, 1991. Since then, he has tirelessly pursued his vision of spiritual revival, Orthodox unity, Christian reconciliation, interfaith tolerance and coexistence, protection of the environment, and a world united in peace, justice, solidarity, and love. Known as the “Green Patriarch,” Patriarch Bartholomew has taken the lead in mobilizing moral and spiritual forces to achieve harmony between humanity and nature. Having been strongly influenced by the continuous dialogue between the Christian and Islamic worlds in his homeland of Turkey, Patriarch Bartholomew has worked persistently to advance reconciliation among Catholics, Muslim, Jewish, and Orthodox communities worldwide.
