Swami Atmapriyananda is the Vice Chancellor of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, a multi-campus university trying to actualize Swami Vivekananda’s educational vision and devoted to teaching and research in areas scarcely addressed by conventional universities in India. Before becoming a monk, Swami Atmapriyananda completed his PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Madras, Chennai. Inspired by Ramakrishna-Vivekananda ideology, that the future of any nation depends on its human resources and the main aim of education should be to develop human resources, he joined the Ramakrishna Order of monks in 1978 and was posted at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira College, where he taught physics for nearly 25 years. In 2005, he took over as Vice Chancellor of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, and serves on several national committees relating to education. He is also a member of a number of global organizations working for peace and harmony, interfaith dialogue, and interreligious understanding.
